(Latin: I [first person, singular pronoun])

Don't confuse this ego with another aego-, ego- which means "goat".


egosyntonic

egotists
A swell of egotists.
ego trip, ego-trip
1. A course of action or an experience that boosts someone's sense of his or her own importance; a slang term.
2. An act, experience, or course of behavior that gratifies the ego.
egotropic
1. Marked by extreme concentration of attention upon oneself; egocentric.
2. Interested chiefly in one's self; self-centered.

superego
1. In Freudian theory, the division of the unconscious that is formed through the internalization of moral standards of parents and society, and that censors and restrains the ego.
2. In psychoanalytic theory, the division of the psyche that censors and restrains the ego and has identified itself unconsciously with important people from early life. It results from incorporating the values and wishes of these people into one's own standards.
