(Greek: tongue; by extension, "speech, language")


pseudoglottic
Referring to the aperture, or opening, between the false vocal cords, or neoglottis, after a surgical operation on the vocal cords.
pseudoglottis
1. The space between the the vestibular folds situated above the rima glottidis (space between the true vocal cords) in the laryngeal cavity (space between the organ at the upper end of the trachea below the root of the tongue).
2. The aperture, or opening, between the false vocal cords; also, neoglottis.
rima glottidis
The interval (space) between the true vocal cords.
subepiglottic
Situated under the epiglottis (cartilaginous lidlike appendage, or connective tissue, which closes the glottis while food or drink is passing while food or drink is passing through the pharynx).
superglottal
1. Above or anterior to the glottis (in front of the tongue).
2. Relating to or articulated by the speech organs anterior to the glottis (tongue).
supraglottal
Situated above the glottis; applied to that part of the cavity of the larynx above the true vocal cords.
supraglottic
A reference to the area of the pharynx above the glottis as far as the epiglottis.
tongue
1. A body part: a freely movable muscular organ lying partly in the floor of the mouth and partly in the pharynx.

Its function is the manipulation of food in mastication and deglutition.

2. It is also very often a reference to speech production; such as, the power of speech or articulation; a manner or style of speaking; and a language, vernacular, or dialect.
