mesencephalon
The part of the brain developed from the middle cerebral vesicle and consisting of the tectum and cerebral peduncles, and traversed by the cerebral aqueduct; midbrain.
mesencephalotomy
Surgical incision of the spinothalamic tract in the mesencephalon, formerly used to control intractable pain, now in disuse because of resulting dysesthesia.
metencephalon
1. The anterior part of the embryonic hindbrain, which gives rise to the cerebellum and pons.
2. The cerebellum and pons of the adult brain.
myeloencephalic
A reference to the spinal cord and the brain.
myeloencephalitis
Inflammation of the spinal cord and the brain.
necrencephalus
Encephalomalacia or softening of the brain.
opisthencephalon
A rarely used term for cerebellum.
orchiencephaloma
1. Embryonal carcinoma.
2. An obsolete (out dated) term for soft tumor of the testis.
otoencephalitis
Encephalitis resulting from otitis media (inflammation of the middle ear).
panencephalitis
A diffuse inflammation of the brain affecting both the gray and white matter of the brain, resulting in progressive loss of (all) mental and motor functions.
polioencephalitis
1. A disease characterized by inflammation of the gray matter of the brain.
2. Poliomyelitis affecting the cerebrum.
3. An acute infectious inflammation of the brain's gray matter, either of the cortex or of the central nuclei.
polioencephalomalacia
A neurologic disease of ruminant animals deficient in thiamin. Edema and softening and necrosis of the gray substance of the cerebral cortex are the primary manifestations.
polioencephalomeningomyelitis
Inflammation of the gray matter of the brain and the spinal cord, associated with inflammation of the meninges.
polioencephalomyelitis
Inflammation of the gray matter of the brain and spinal cord.
polioencephalomyelopathy
Any pathologic process or disorder of function that predominantly involves the neurons rather than the glia or white matter of the brain and spinal cord.
