electroencephalography
The recording of the electric currents developed in the brain, by means of electrodes applied to the scalp, to the surface of the brain (intracranial) or placed within the substance of the brain (depth).
encephalalgia
A deep-seated head pain; a severe headache.
encephalatrophy
Cerebral atrophy (wasting; a decrease in size of the main portion of the brain).
encephalitis
Inflammation of the brain, usually caused by a viral infection.
encephalitogen
An agent that evokes encephalitis, particularly with reference to the antigen which produces experimental allergic encephalomyelitis.
encephalitogenic
Tending to cause encephalitis; such as, an encephalitogenic strain of a virus.
encephalocele
A hernia of the brain through a congenital or traumatic opening in the cranium.
encephaloclastic
A reference to anything that is destructive of brain tissue.
encephalodynia
Pain in the head; head ache; "headache of intracranial origin".
encephalogram
The record obtained by encephalography (radiographic representation of the brain).
encephalography
Radiographic examination of the brain in which some of the cerebrospinal fluid is replaced with air or another gas that acts as a contrasting medium.
encephaloid
1. Resembling the brain or brain substance.
2. Resembling the material of the brain; cerebriform.
encephalology
The science which treats of the brain, its structure and functions.
encephaloma
1. A brain tumor.
2. A hernia of the brain.
3. Any swelling or tumor of the brain.
encephalomalacia
1. Softening of brain tissue, usually caused by vascular insufficiency or degenerative changes.
2. A softness or degeneration of brain tissue, as caused by impairment of the blood supply; softening of the brain.
