(Greek: a suffix; to spread, to disperse; to withdraw, to advance, to go; a means or agency for distribution)
brotochore, brotochory, brotochorous
A plant that is dispersed by humans.
bryochore, bryochoric
That area of the earth's surface that is covered by tundra plant life which consists of sedges, mosses, lichens, and a few small shrubs.
Underlaid by permafrost, with the result that drainage is bad and the soil may be saturated for long periods. It does not have a permanent snow–ice cover.
clitochore, clitochorous, clitochory
1. Dispersed by gravity.
2. Plants that are distributed by land slides.
cryochore, cryochory
Those regions of the earth’s surface perpetually covered by snow.
crystallochore, crystallochory, crystallochrous
Dispersed by the movement of glaciers.
cyclochore, cyclochory, cyclochorous
Distribution of seeds by wind blowing and tumbling the fruiting stages of plants.
dendrochore, dendrochory, dendrochoric
That part of the earth's surface covered by trees.
diplochory
Describes seed dispersal involving two or more modes.
For instance, a bird eats a fruit and disperses seed in it's droppings and these are later carried away by insects.
endozoochore, endozoochory, endozoochorous
Dispersal by the agency of animals, typically and especially after passage of non-digestable fruits or seeds through the gut.
entomochore, entomochoric, entomochory
Dispersed by the agency of insects.
epizoochore, epizoochory, epizoochorous
1. Dispersed by attachment to the surface of animals of visid (sticky), barbed, or hooked seeds or fruits.
2. Any spore, seed, or organism that is dispersed by being carried upon the body of an animal.
eurychore, eurychoric, eurychorous
1. An organism having a wide distribution.
2. Widely distributed.
gynochore, gynochory, gynochoric
An organism that is dispersed by wandering or motile females.
hydrochore, hydrochory, hydrochoric
1. Dispersed by the agency of water; such as, floating seeds, fruits, or vegetable parts.
2. Dependent on water for dissemination.
indiochore, indiochory, indiochorous
An organism that distributes itself.
