crud- (Latin: raw, not cooked; literally, trickling with blood, bleeding; raw, bloody, cruel)
The terms, cruelty and crudeness are closely linked etymologically. Cruel came via Old French cruel from Latin crudelis, a relative of Latin crudus; which actually meant "cruel" as well as "raw" and "bloody".

1. Short for crude oil, especially as used in the oil industry.
2. Roughly or unskillfully made or conceived.
3. Vulgar or obscene; lacking culture, refinement, tact, etc.; crude behavior: "He made a crude gesture as the police car passed by on the street."
4. In raw state or in an unprocessed condition; such as, crude ore.
5. Approximate or not precisely accurate: "She made a crude estimate of how much it would cost to drive to the next city."
6. A description of numerical results, or collected data, which have not been organized, adjusted, or altered in any way; and so, lacking finish, polish, or completeness.
