Method or way of working.

Method of proceeding with a task. Characteristic manner of operation or procedure; as with a criminal who uses a unique modus operandi (M.O.) and can thus be identified because of his special way of committing his criminal activities.

This phrase is not restricted to police use. It refers to any work plan, method, procedure, or scheme for doing a job.

modus vivendi
A way of living, a way of life; a way of getting along together.

Compromise or living arrangements between people of differing interests. Temporary arrangement between two or more parties to enable them to get along together, pending a full settlement of a dispute.

A few authorities maintain that it should describe only a truce between disputing parties pending settlement of their disagreement.

1. A state of great confusion, agitation, commotion, tumult, or disturbance.
2. A disruptive event that causes confusion, commotion, or disturbance.
3. Etymology: perhaps an alteration of Middle French tremouille, "mill hopper", in reference to the hopper's constant motion to and fro, from Latin trimodia, "vessel containing three modii", from modius, "a Roman dry measure", related to modus, "measure".
