dysphemism, dysphemia
1. The deliberate substitution of an offensive expression for a neutral one.
2. An offensive expression deliberately substituted for a neutral one.
3. Any impairment in the ability to speak.
4. Disordered phonation (producing vocal sounds), articulation, or hearing resulting from emotional or mental deficits.
dysphonia, dysphonic
1. Difficulty in producing articulate speech sounds.
2. Impairment of the voice manifested by hoarseness or other defects of phonation due to organic, functional, or psychic causes.
3. Difficulty in speaking; hoarseness which may be due to public speaking.

The term also refers to the change or breaking in the voice of boys during puberty.

dysphoria, dysphoric
1. A depression or a state of feeling acutely hopeless, uncomfortable, and unhappy.
2. An emotional state characterized by anxiety, depression, or unease.
3. An exaggerated feeling of depression and unrest without apparent cause.
4. A mood of general dissatisfaction with life; unpleasantness, restlessness, anxiety, discomfort, and unhappiness.
5. A feeling of ill-being; especially, an abnormal feeling of anxiety, discontent, or physical discomfort.
dysphotic zone, disphotic zone
The zone of intermediate light inensity in a body of water, with insufficient light for photosynthesis but sufficient light for behavioral responses.
dysphrasia
1. Impairment of speech due to a brain lesion; dysphasia.
2. Defective speech caused by impairment of the intellect.
dysphylaxia
Premature spontaneous arousal from sleep, such as early morning waking.
dyspigmentation
An abnormality of the skin or hair pigment (natural substance in plant or animal tissue that gives it its color).
dyspituitarism
Any condition due to a disorder of the pituitary body.
dysplasia, dysplasty
Medically, abnormal development or growth of a part of the body; such as, an organ, bone, or cell, including the total absence of such a part.
dysplastic
1. A reference to the abnormal development of organs or cells, or an abnormal structure resulting from such growth.
2. Characterized by the unusual development or growth of a part of the body; such as, an organ, bone, or cell; including the total absence of such a part.
dyspnea, dyspnoea
1. Air hunger resulting in labored or difficult breathing, sometimes accompanied by pain. It is normal when due to vigorous work or athletic activity.
2. Difficulty in breathing caused; for example, by heart disease, over exertion, or by being over weight.
dyspneic
Relating to, or characterized by, a shortness of breath, a subjective difficulty or distress in breathing, usually associated with disease of the heart or lungs.

It occurs normally during intense physical exertion, at high altitude, or because of being over weight; labored breathing.

dysponesis
A reversible physiopathologic state consisting of unnoticed, misdirected neurophysiologic reactions to various agents (environmental events, bodily sensations, emotions, and thoughts) and the repercussions of these reactions throughout the organism.
dyspraxia
1. Poor coordination displayed by some children, diagnosed by illegible handwriting and inability to catch a ball and clap while the ball is in the air. It sometimes accompanies dyslexia.
2. An impairment in or partial loss of control of the body’s motor system, resulting from brain damage.
3. A disturbance in the programming, control, and execution of volitional movements.

It can not be explained by absence of comprehension, inadequate attention, or lack of cooperation.

It is usually associated with a stroke, head injury, or any condition affecting the cerebral hemispheres.
