anaerobe
1. A microorganism that lives and grows in the complete, or almost complete, absence of molecular oxygen.
2. Any organism that can live in the absence of oxygen, obligate anaerobes being unable even to live in low oxygen concentrations.
anaerobic
1. Having to do with or occurring in the absence of atmospheric oxygen or air.
2. Relating to living or growing where there is no atmospheric oxygen.
Anaerobic bacteria get their oxygen by decomposing compounds containing oxygen.
anaerobiont
An organism capable of anaerobic existence.
anaerobiosis
1. Growing or occurring in the absence of molecular oxygen.
2. A reference to an environment in which the partial pressure of oxygen is significantly below normal atmospheric levels; deoxygenated.
3. Life sustained by an organism in the absence of oxygen or existing in an oxygen-free atmosphere.
anaerobiotic
1. Related to life in a medium devoid or empty of free oxygen.
2. Characterized by existence in an oxygen-free atmosphere.
3. A reference to habitats devoid of, or significantly depleted in, molecular oxygen.
anaerogenic
Not producing gas; a reference to microorganisms that do not produce visible gas during the breakdown of carbohydrates.
anaerophyte
A plant that grows without air.
anaeroplasty
Treatment of wounds by exclusion of air.
aura (s); aurae, auras (pl)
1. An invisible breath, emanation, or radiation.
2. A distinctive but intangible quality that seems to surround a person or thing; atmosphere.
3. In medicine, a sensation, as of a cold breeze or a bright light, that precedes the onset of certain disorders; such as, an epileptic seizure or an attack of migraine.
4. Etymology: from Latin aura "breeze, a breath of air, wind, air" and from Greek aura "breeze, breath".

1. A modification of the activated sludge method of purifying sewage.
2. A system of purifying sewage by oxidation, in which crude sewage is passed through special centrifugal pumps.
3. A sewage treatment method in which microorganisms oxidize the organic matter.

The treatment of disease by exposure to sunshine and fresh air.
mechanical aeration
Aeration of waste water and industrial discharges by physical means; such as, agitation.
microaerobion
A microaerophilic micro-organism.
