A diviner who uses burning straws on red-hot iron, and noting the manner of their burning.

Deficiency of iron in the system, usually caused by blood loss, low dietary levels of iron, or a disease condition that inhibits iron uptake.

A reference to an abnormally low concentration of serum iron in the blood.

siderophage, siderophagia
A macrophage laden with phagocytosed iron-containing particles.
siderophil(e)
A siderophilous tissue or structure.
siderophilin, transferrin
1. A beta globulin in blood plasma capable of combining with ferric ions and transporting iron in the body.
2. A plasma glycoprotein that transports dietary iron to the liver, spleen, and bone marrow.
siderophilous
1. In biology, a preference for iron.
2. In physiology, having a tendency to absorb iron.
siderophily
siderophone
1. A term for an electrical device for detecting a bit of iron in the eyeball, its presence causing the instrument to sound.
2. An instrument for detecting, by a telephone-like arrangement, the presence of iron splinters in the eyeball.
siderophore
1. A substance that binds iron.
2. A macrophage containing hemosiderin.
3. A compound produced by certain species of mycobacteria and enterobacteria that chelates iron and facilitates its uptake by the cell.
sideroscope
A magnet or other appliance for determining the presence of metallic iron as a foreign body in the eye.
siderosilicosis
A type of mixed dust pneumoconiosis consisting of siderosis with silicosis, due to the inhalation of dust containing particles of iron ore and silica.
siderosis
A benign type of pneumoconiosis caused by the inhalation of iron particles.

It usually becomes serious only when combined with silicosis.
