anesthetic vaporizer
A device for the evaporation of a liquid anesthetic, preferably at constant temperature, into a carrier gas, usually oxygen, oxygen plus nitrous oxide, or air.
anesthetist
A person, not necessarily a physician, who administers anesthetics.
anesthetize
1. To place someone under the influence of an anesthetic.
2. To induce anesthesia or to render anesthetic.

Another spelling version (U.S.) of anaesthetize.

anesthetometer
An apparatus for measuring and mixing anesthetic vapors and gases.
anesthetospasm
A spasm that comes with anesthesia.
angiospastic anesthesia
Loss of sensibility due to ischemia in an area produced by spasm or occlusion of the blood vessels.
apallesthesia
Absence of the sense of vibration.
aphemesthesia
1. The loss of the ability to understand written language as a result of a cerebral lesion; also known as alexia.
2. The loss of the sense of articulate speech.
3. The inability to recognize what someone is saying.
aphotesthesia
1. Decreased sensitivity of the retina to light caused by excessive exposure to sunlight.
2. A condition caused by an undue exposure to sunlight.

It is characterized by reduced retinal sensitivity to light.

arthresthesia
1. The perception of movements in bodily joints.
2. A recognition of sensations in joint surfaces.
auditory hyperesthesia
Abnormal acuteness of hearing due to increased irritability of a sensory neural mechanism.
auditory hypoesthesia (hypoacusis)
The partial loss of hearing.
auditory synesthesia, subjective sound
An auditory sensation that occurs when another sense is stimulated.
autaesthesy, autesthesy
Self-consciousness.
baranesthesia
1. Insensibility to weight or pressure on the body.
2. The inability to perceive pressure.
