In medicine, some of these elements usually mean “one who suffers from a disease of, or one who treats a disease”; so, they should not be confused with the “feeling” words which are also shown on these pages.
pathosis
Any kind of diseased condition.
pathotropism
The tendency of drugs to pass into diseased areas.
pedopathy
Any disease of the foot or feet.
pelopathy, pelopathic
1. The therapeutic use of earth or mud to cure a disease.
2. The application of peloids; such as, mud, peat moss, or clay, to all or part of the body.
Also known as pelotherapy.
pharyngopathy
Any disease of the pharynx.
phonopathy
1. Any structural of functional disorder of the component parts of the speech apparatus.
2. Any disease of the vocal organs affecting speech.
3. Any disease or disorder of phonation.
photopathologic
Characterized by or pertaining to any abnormality resulting from excessive exposure to light.
photopathy
1. A pathological effect caused by light.
2. The influence of light upon organisms.
3. Any abnormal change in the skin induced by light.
photoretinopathy
1. A burn in the retina of the eye from excessive exposure to sunlight.
2. A central retina burn from excessive exposure to sunlight or other intense light (e.g. the flash of an electrical short).
3. Thermal damage to the retina because of intense light.
phrenopathy
Disease of the mind.
phrictopathic
Causing a shudder; a term applied to a peculiar sensation caused by irritating a hysterical anesthetic area during recovery.
physiopathologic
1. Pertaining to both physiology and pathology.
2. Involving a pathological modification of normal function.
physiopathology
1. The branch of medicine that studies how disease disrupts normal body functions.
2. The science dealing with the disturbances of bodily function resulting from disease.
phytopathogen
Producing disease in plants.
phytopathology
1. The study of plant diseases and their control.
2. The pathology of diseases caused by plant parasites.
