(Greek: feeling, sensation, perception; suffering, disease, disorder; a system of treatment of disease)
In medicine, some of these elements usually mean “one who suffers from a disease of, or one who treats a disease”; so, they should not be confused with the “feeling” words which are also shown on these pages.
neopathy
1. A new lesion or pathologic process.
2. A new, or newly, discovered disease.
3. A disease, or the complication of a disease, newly present in a patient.
nephropathy, nephropathia, nephropathic
Any disease of the kidneys.
neuroarthropathy
Any disease of joint structures associated with disease of the central or peripheral nervous system.
neuromyopathy
1. A disorder of a muscle resulting from a disorder of its nerve supply.
2. Simultaneous disorders of nerves and muscles.
neuronopathy
Disorder, often toxic, of the neuron.
neuropathic
1. Pertaining to an organic or functional disorder of the nervous system.
2. The terms neurotic and psychogenic are usually preferred by many psychologists instead of neuropathic for functional disorders.
neuropathology
A branch of medicine that is concerned with diseases of the nervous system.
neuropsychopathy
An emotional illness of neurologic and functional origin.
nostopathy
Rarely used. A mental illness whereby the subject has a fear of returning to familiar places.
oculopathy
Any disease of the eyes.
odontopathy
Any disease of the teeth or their sockets.
onychopathic
A reference to any disease of the fingernail or toenails.
ophthalmopathy
Any disease of the eyes; also oculopathy.
orchiopathy
Any disease of the testis.
organopathy
A disease associated with some structural change of an organ or tissue in the body.
