1. The scientific description of the composition and formation of rocks; descriptive petrology.
2. That department of science which investigates the constitution of rocks; petrology.
3. The systematic classification of igneous and metamorphic rocks on the basis of their mineralogical and textural relationships; especially, by means of microscopic studies.
phantasmatography
A description of celestial phenomena; such as, rainbows, etc.
pharmacoangiography
Angiography in which visualization is enhanced by manipulating the flow of blood by the administration of vasodilating and vasoconstricting agents.
pharmacography
1. A treatise on or description of drugs.
2. An account or written description of drugs.
pharmacoradiography
Radiographic examination of a body organ under the influence of a drug that best facilitates such examination.
pharmacoroentgenography, pharmacoradiography
Roentgenography of an organ or other body structure after the administration of a drug designed to change the function or appearance of the studied part in a manner to improve the examination.
philographer
One who collects autographs; serious autograph collectors.
philography
A fondness for collecting autographs or the practice of collecting autographs.
phlebograph
An instrument for making a graphic recording of the venous pulse. Also called venous sphygmograph.
phlebography
1. A description of the veins by studying their structures and functions.
2. Recording of the pulse in a vein.
3. Radiography of a vein, carried out after the introduction of a contrast medium.
4. Roentgenography of a vein or veins by use of contrast medium.
5. The graphic recording of the venous pulse.
phleborheography
1. A technique for measuring venous volume changes in response to respiration and to compression of the foot or calf, employing a plethysmograph having cuffs applied to the abdomen, thigh, upper, mid, and lower calf, and foot; used in the diagnosis of deep venous thrombosis.
2. A technique for diagnosing proximal venous occlusions by measuring the changes in limb volume with distal cuff inflation.
phonarteriography, phonarteriograph
The recording of arterial sounds.
phonautograph, phonautography, phonautographic
1. An apparatus for automatically recording the vibrations of sound, including the voice, by means of a membrane set in vibration by the sound-waves, and having a point attached which makes a tracing upon a revolving cylinder.
2. An instrument where by a sound can be made to produce a visible record of itself.
phonoangiography
Recording and analysis of the audible frequency-intensity components of the bruit of turbulent arterial blood flow through a stenotic lesion.
phonocardiograph
An instrument, utilizing microphones, amplifiers, and filters, for graphically recording heart sounds and murmurs, that are displayed on an oscilloscope or analog tracing.
