lexiconist
One who compiles a lexicon or lexica.
lexiconize
1. To compile a lexicon.
2. To reduce or make into the form of a lexicon.
lexiconophilist
One who collects dictionaries and related books about words.
lexicostatistic
Of or relating to the statistics of vocabulary.
lexicostatistics
1. A statistical technique used in glottochronology; used to estimate how long ago different languages evolved from a common source language.
2. The study of linguistic divergence between two languages, based on changes in a list of common vocabulary terms and the sharing of common root words.
lexigram
A symbol that represents a word.
lexigraphy
1. A system of writing in which each character stands for a word.
2. The art or practice of defining words; definition of words.
3. Sometimes the art of defining words or compiling lexicons.
lexiphanes
1. Showing off by using unusual or "big" words.
2. A phrase-monger; one who uses bombastic phraseology.
3. Anyone who pretentiously uses words.
4. Etymology: from Greek lexiphanes, "phrase monger", from lexis, "word" + -phaneia, "to show".
lexiphanic
A reference to, or descriptive of, the use of pretentious words; bombastic; such as, a lexiphanic writer or speaker; or lexiphanic writing.
lexiphanicism
1. The use of pretentious (showy, flashy) words, language, or style.
2. The use of pretentious phraseology.
lexiphonic
A reference to word sounds or sounding out words.
lexis
1. The entire stock of words in a language.
2. The diction or wording, in contrast to other elements, of a piece of writing.
3. The total set of words in a language as distinct from morphology; vocabulary.
paralexia
A form of sensory aphasia in which one word is read for another word.
