1. Someone who gains pleasure from watching, especially secretly, other people's bodies or the sexual acts in which they participate; especially from a secret vantage point.
2. A persistent observer of misery or scandal; a fascinated observer of distressing, sordid, or scandalous events.
3. Etymology: a scopophiliac (someone who derives sexual pleasure by looking at nude bodies, erotic photographs, etc.), from 1900, from French voyeur (1898); literally, "someone who views or inspects", from French voir, "to view", from Latin videre, "to see".
voyeurism
The action of watching an unsuspecting person who is nude, in the act of undressing, or actively engaged in sexual intercourse.
Sexual contact between the observed and the voyerur is not known to occur.
voyeuristic
A reference to watching a person undress, or who is nude, without the "victim" being aware of such observations.
It is considered by psychiatrists to be one of the paraphilias (sexual deviations or sexual perversions) within the group of psychosexual disorders.
voyeuristically
1. Like a voyeur: "He sneaks voyeuristically around the swimming pool checking out the girls."
2. A reference to the habitual seeking of sexual stimulations by visual means.
3. A descriptive term for a prying method of secretly looking for the sordid or the scandalous.
