active vasoconstriction
A narrowing of the lumen of the blood vessels caused by contraction of the musculature of the vessel wall.
active vasodilatation
A widening of the blood vessels caused by a relaxation of the musculature of the vessel wall.
reflex vasodilatation
The expansion of the blood vessels caused by a reflex-mediated relaxation in the musculature of the vessel wall.
vas (s), vasa (pl)
A vessel; especially, a channel conducting bodily fluids; such as, blood, lymph, or semen.
vasa aberrantia hepatis
Remnants of the bile ducts in atrophied liver substance sometimes persisting from fetal life, in the left lobe of the liver.
vasa afferentia nodi lymphatici
The afferent lymphatic vessels of a lymph node. Afferent refers to the carrying inward to a central organ or section, as nerves that conduct impulses from the periphery of the body to the brain or spinal cord.
vasa auris internae
A collective term for the vessels of the inner ear.
vasa brevia (pl), vasa breve (s)
The short gastric arteries.
vasal
1. A tube in which a body fluid circulates.
2. A reference to vessels, particularly blood vessels; a vas.
3. Relating to, or connected with a vessel or duct of the body.
vasalgia
Pain in a blood vessel or blood vessels.
vasalium
True vascular tissue; such as, is found in closed or vascular organs.
vasa nervorum
Blood vessels supplying the nerves.
vasa sanguinea retinae
A collective term for the blood vessels of the retinas of the eyes.
vasa vasorum
The blood vessels supplying the walls of arteries and veins having a caliber greater than one millimeter.
vas deferens
The excretory duct of the testis that conveys sperm.
