(Latin: a suffix; state, quality, condition of)

A suffix that forms nouns from adjectives and past participles.


altitude
1. The height of something above a specific level, especially above sea level or the earth's surface.
2. A place or region situated high above sea level.

latitude
1. The scope for freedom of; such as, action or thought; freedom from restrictionS.
2. The angular distance between an imaginary line around a heavenly body parallel to its equator and the equator itself.
3. An imaginary line around the earth parallel to the equator.
4. Freedom from normal restraints in conduct.
5. Enough scope or leeway for some freedom of choice, action, or thinking: "She loves her job because she is allowed a lot of latitude in creating new approaches."
6. The degree of overexposure or underexposure that light-sensitive material can accommodate and still provide an acceptable image.
7. In medical radiology, the range of and exposure that would produce a technically correct radiograph.
longitude
In geography and astronomy, length; the angular distance east or west of the prime meridian that stretches from the north pole to the south pole and passes through Greenwich, England. Longitude is measured in degrees, minutes, and seconds.
multitude
1. A large crowd of people or a very large number of things or people.
2. The common people generally or a large gathering of people.
3. A large indefinite number.
plenitude
senectitude
Old age.
servitude
1. The state of being a slave.
2. The state of being ruled or dominated by someone or something.
3. Work imposed as a punishment for a crime.
4. The condition of being a slave or a serf, or of being the property of another person; absence of personal freedom.

Often, and now usually, with the additional notion of subjection to the necessity of excessive labor.

solitude
1. The state of being alone, separated from other people, whether considered as a welcome freedom from disturbance or as an unhappy loneliness.
2. A quality of quiet remoteness or seclusion in places from which human activity is generally absent.
3. A remote or uninhabited place.
