Don't confuse this tropho-, -trophy element with tropo-, meaning "turn, turning," etc.
trophosperm
1. The placenta, or the vascular appendage which connects the fetus with the parent, and is cast off in parturition with the afterbirth.
2. The part of a pistil or fruit to which the ovules or seeds are attached.

The vascular endometrium forming the outer or maternal layer of the placenta.

A nutritive polyp or zooid in coral and similar colonial coelenterates.
vasotrophic
Relating to the nutrition of the blood vessels or the lymphatics.
viscerotrophic
1. Making use of internal organs of the body for growth; used especially of viruses.
2. Capable of stimulating the growth of internal organs of the body.
zootrophic
Relating to or providing nutrition to lower animals; concerning animal nutrition.
