pineal
1. Piniform; shaped like a pine cone.
2. Pertaining to the corpus pineale (pineal gland).
pinealectomy
Removal (excision) of the pineal body.
pineal gland
A small cone-shaped organ of the brain that secretes the hormone melatonin into the bloodstream. It is one of the endocrine glands and is situated beneath the back part of the corpus callosum (the thick band of nerve fibers that connects the two hemispheres of the brain in higher mammals and allows the hemispheres to communicate).
pinealism
Any condition due to presumed abnormalities of pineal gland secretion.
pinealocyte
Chief cell or parenchymatous cell of the corpus pineale; a cell of the pineal body with long processes ending in bulbous expansions.
pinealoma
A relatively rare pineal neoplasm characterized by large, round, or polygonal, cells and small cells that resemble lymphocytes.
pinealopathy
Disease of the pineal gland (a glandlike structure in the brain, shaped like a pine cone).
