acarophytism
Symbiosis between plants and mites.
acrophyte
A plant growing at a high altitude; an alpine plant.
acropleustophyte
A large aquatic plant that floats freely at the surface of the water.
acropleustophytic
aerophyte, epiphyte, air plant
1. An aerophyte is attached to the aerial portion of another plant.

Also known as an "epiphyte", it lives on the surface of other plants but does not derive water or nourishment from them.

2. An aerophyte, or epiphyte, grows on a terrestrial plant and lacks direct contact with soil or water.

They get moisture and nutrients from the air or from small pools of water that collect on the host plant. "Spanish moss" and many orchids are aerophytes, or epiphytes.

aigialophyte
Plants that thrive on beaches.
allophytoid
A propagative bud, differing from a vegetative bud; a bulbil, as of some lilies.
amphicryptophyte
A marsh plant with amphibious vegetative parts.
amphiphyte
A plant able to live either rooted in damp soil above the water level or completely submerged.
anaerophyte
A plant that grows without air.
anaphyte
anemophyte
1. A plant occurring in windswept situations.
2. A plant which is fertilized by wind-blown pollen.
anthophyte
A flowering plant, or any of its closest relatives.
