This R.I.P. symbol is used on tombstones, cards of mourning, etc. The plural form is Requiescant in pace, "May they rest in peace." The abbreviation, R.I.P. is used for both the singular and the plural applications.

Literally, "Where they create a desert, they call it peace" which is a quote from Tacitus' Agricola in which he was expressing the sentiments of a leader of the Britons who was defeated by the Romans.

1. Not to be placated or appeased or moved by entreaty.
2. Incapable of being appeased, significantly changed, or mitigated.
3. Impossible to appease or to satisfy: "We had an unappeasable thirst and hunger after the long, hot walk."

A descriptive word for not capable of being appeased, significantly changed, or mitigated.
unpaid
1. Without payment.
2. Awaiting payment or settlement; such as, unpaid bills.
3. Not yet in receipt of payment for work done.
4. Working without wages or a salary.
5. Serving without pay; unsalaried: "We worked as unpaid research assistants."
