estrogen
1. A general term for female steroid sex hormones that are secreted by the ovary and responsible for typical female sexual characteristics.
2. A steroid hormone, produced mainly in the ovaries, that stimulates estrus and the development of female secondary sexual characteristics.
estrogenic, estrogenous
1. Producing estrus (the recurrent, restricted period of sexual receptivity in female mammals other than human females, marked by intense sexual urge).
2. Referring to, having the effects of, or similar to, an estrogen.
estrogenicity
The quality of exerting or the ability to exert an estrus-producing or an estrogenic effect.
estrogen therapy
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or the therapeutic administration of estrogen and progesterone, especially to postmenopausal women, to reduce symptoms and signs of estrogen deficiency such as hot flashes and osteoporosis.
estromania
An exaggerated sexual desire in a female; nymphomania.
oestromania, oestromaniac
Hypersexuality in females or nymphomania.
