achillodynia
Pain in the Achilles tendon or in its bursa; achillobursitis.
The Achilles tendon is one of the better known anatomic features in sports medicine because of the abrupt nature of some abrupt injuries to this tendon. It is in the back of the lower leg and connects the calf muscle (the triceps surae) with the calcaneus bone in the heel.
This tendon is so named for the hero whose heel, according to Greek mythology, was the only part of his body where he was unprotected from harm.
acrodynia
1. Disease of infancy and early childhood characterized by pain and swelling in, and pink coloration of, the fingers and toes.
2. A syndrome caused almost exclusively by mercury poisoning in children and gastrointestinal symptoms, in adults, by anorexia, photophobia, sweating, and tachycardia.
acrotrophodynia
Pain, sensory loss, and trophic changes affecting the distal extremities, usually the feet, that can follow prolonged exposure of the limbs to cold and moisture.
adenodynia
A painful gland.
aero-odontodynia
Aerodontalgia or toothaches associated with the reduction in atmospheric pressure in high-altitude flying.
The difference in pressure exacerbates existing pulpitis, particularly in connection with caries and restorations.
allodynia
1. The condition in which an ordinarily painless stimulus, once perceived, is experienced as being painful.
2. Pain from stimuli which are not normally painful.
The pain may occur somewhere other than in the area stimulated.
angiodynia
Pain in a blood vessel.
anodyne
A medicine or remedy that soothes or relieves pain.
