1. The status of the body in relation to nutrition, generally or as regards a specific nutrient; such as, protein.
2. The state or condition of the nutritional status of the body with regard to nourishment.
phytonutrient, phytonutrients, phytochemicals
Currently, the terms

phytonutrient and phytochemical are being used interchangeably to describe those plant compounds which are thought to have health-protecting qualities.

The antioxidant, immune boosting and other health promoting properties of active compounds in plants are being investigated.

Phytonutrients or phytochemicals, are non-nutritive bioactive plant substances; such as, flavonoids or carotenoids, considered to have a beneficial effect on human health.
