anomalad
A pattern of development initiated by a single structural defect which subsequently leads to associated secondary defects.
anomalies
1. People or things that are different from what is usual, or not in agreement with something else and therefore not satisfactory: "The government's statistical anomalies can make it difficult to compare economic data from one year to the next."
2. Abnormalities or deviations. It is a favorite word among computer people when complex systems produce outputs that are inexplicable.
anomaliped
1. One of a group of perching birds, having the middle toe more or less united to the outer and inner ones.
2. An epithet given to fowls, whose middle toe is united to the exterior by three phalanges, and to the interior by just one toe.
anomalism
An anomaly; a deviation from normal rule.
anomalist
Someone who has a special interest in exceptional cases.
anomalistic
A reference which is descriptive of a deviation or departure from the normal or common order, form, or rule.
anomalopia
1. Partial color blindness in which both red and green are poorly recognized.
2. A form of color blindness where reds and greens look much the same.
anomaloscope
1. An instrument used to diagnose abnormalities of color perception in which one-half of a field of color is matched by mixing two other colors.
2. The instrument used in testing for anomalies of color vision by having the subject match mixed spectral lines.
anomalotrophy
The abnormality of nutrition.
anomalous
1. Deviating from the normal rule, method, or arrangement; irregular, abnormal; such as, a fish that crawls out of the water and along the ground.
2. Irregular; marked by deviation from the natural order and is applied particularly to congenital and hereditary defects.
anomalous beat
A heart beat abnormally conducted in the ventricles.
anomalousness
1. Deviation from the normal or common order or form or rule.
2. Inconsistent with or deviating from what is usual, normal, or expected; irregular, unusual.
3. Of uncertain nature or classification and so, marked by incongruity or contradiction.
anomalous pulmonary venoius drainage
Drainage of one or more of the pulmonary veins into a structure other than the left atrium (usually the right atrium or the superior vena cava).
anomaly
1. Deviation or departure from the normal or common order, form, or rule.
2. Anything that is peculiar, strange, irregular, abnormal, or difficult to classify.
3. In astronomy, the angle in a planet's orbit or the angle between a planet's position, the sun, and the point in the planet's orbit when it is closest to the sun; or the angular deviation, as observed from the sun, of a planet from its perihelion.
4. An odd, peculiar, or strange condition, situation, quality, etc. and an incongruity or inconsistency.
5. Etymology: from Latin anomalia, from Greek anomalia, noun of quality from anomalos, "uneven, irregular"; from an-, "not" + homalos, "even", from homos, "same".
anomaly finder
A device for measuring abnormalities in seismic, gravitational, magnetic, and other factors; used in locating underwater deposits.
