angi-, angio-, angei-, -angium

(Greek > Latin: [receptacle], vessel, often a blood vessel; "covered by a seed or vessel", a seed vessel; a learned borrowing from Greek meaning "vessel", "container")



angiocardiogram
1. An X-ray examination of the thoracic vessels and the heart after the intravenous injection of a substance opaque to X-rays.
2. The film produced by angiocardiography.
angiocardiography
1. X-ray imaging of the heart and great vessels made visible by injection of a radiopaque solution.
2. Angiography of the heart and great vessels; contrast material may be injected into a blood vessel or one of the cardiac chambers.

Images obtained can be analyzed to determine parameters of ventricular function, including ventricular ejection fractions, cardiac output, ejection rates, stroke volume, end-diastolic volume, and end-systolic volume, as well as to test the effects of exercise.

1. Affecting the motions or movements of the heart and blood vessels.
2. Any agent that affects the movements of the heart and vessels.
angiocardiopathy
A disease affecting both the heart and blood vessels.
angiocarditis
Inflammation of the heart and great blood vessels.
angiocarp
A tree bearing fruit enclosed in a shell or involucre or husk.
angiocarpic
Having or being fruit enclosed in a shell or husk.
angiocarpous
1. Having fruit enclosed within a covering that does not form a part of itself; as, the filbert covered by its husk, or the acorn seated in its cupule.
2. Having the seeds or spores covered, as in certain lichens.
angiocavernoma
Cavernous hemangioma, a vascular tumor composed of large dilated blood vessels and containing large blood-filled spaces, due to dilation and thickening of the walls of the capillary loops. Also called cavernous angioma.

A vascular tumor preponderantly composed of large dilated blood vessels, often containing large amounts of blood, occurring in the skin, subcutaneously, or both, and also in many viscera, particularly the liver, spleen, pancreas, and sometimes the brain.

Most are present in early life but they are usually not present at birth. The typical superficial lesions are bright to dark red in color; deep lesions have a blue color.

Arising in the circulatory system.
angioceratoma
An intradermal cavernous hemangioma covered by a wartlike thickening of the horny layer of the epidermis.
angiochalasis
A dilatation of blood vessels resulting from a lack of tone.
angiocheiloscope
An instrument that magnifies the capillary circulation for observing blood circulation of the lips, permitting direct observation.
angiocholecystitis
A rarely used term for inflammation of the bile vessels and gallbladder.
angiocholitis
Inflammation of a bile duct.
