mesio-
(Greek: middle; closer to the center line of the dental arch)
In dentistry, a combining form denoting relationship to the middle; specifically, the mesial surface of a tooth or the mesial wall of a tooth cavity.
mesiad
Directed or proceeding toward the median sagittal plane of the body or, specifically, following the dental arch toward the center line.
mesial
Nearer or nearest the midline in the dental arch; a reference especially of the surface of a tooth.
mesiobuccal
A reference to or formed by the mesial and buccal surfaces of a tooth, or the mesial and buccal walls of a tooth cavity preparation.
mesiocervical
Referring to the mesial surface of the neck of a tooth; also, mesiogingival.
mesioclusion
Malocclusion characterized by mesial displacement of one or more of the lower teeth.
mesiodens (s), mesiodentes (pl)
A centrally placed upper supernumerary tooth.
The most common supernumerary (extra) tooth, appearing singly or in pairs as a small tooth with a cone-shaped crown and a short root between the maxillary central incisors; it may be erupted, impacted, or even inverted.
mesiodistal
Relating to the line joining the midpoints of the mesial and distal surfaces of a tooth.
mesiogression
A condition of having the teeth forward of the normal position in the arch.
mesiolingual
A reference to or formed by the mesial and lingual surfaces of a tooth, or the mesial and lingual walls of a tooth cavity preparation.
mesio-occlusal
Relating to both the mesial and occlusal surfaces of a tooth.
A reference to cavities and restorations involving these surfaces.

1. A position of a tooth nearer the median line than normal.
2. A more than normally anterior position of a jaw.
