mala (s), malae (pl)
1. The arch of bone beneath the eye that forms the prominence of the cheek; also known as: cheekbone, zygomatic bone, malar bone, jugal bone, and os zygomaticum.
2. An alternative term for cheek or zygomatic bone.
malar
1. A reference to the cheek or to the zygoma (part of the temporal bone of the skull that forms the prominence of the cheek).
2. The zygomatic bone (arch, the cheek bone, and the yoke bone; relating to the cheek region of the face).
malar point
The most prominent point on the outer surface of the zygomatic bone.
malar tubercle, tuberosity
Marginal tubercle of the zygomatic bone or the blunt, thickened inferior angle of the zygomatic bone (elevation or protuberance); or the quadrangular bone of the cheek, articulating with the frontal bone, the maxilla, the zygomatic process of the temporal bone, and the greater wing of the sphenoid bone.
