-ance, -ancy

(Latin: a suffix; often through French, quality or state of; being; condition; act or fact of _______ ing)

A suffix that forms nouns.


redundance
1. The attribute of being superfluous and unneeded.
2. That which is redundant or in excess; anything superfluous or superabundant.
remittance
1. The sending of money, checks, etc., to a recipient at a distance to pay for merchandise or services.
2. Money or its equivalent sent from one place, or person, to another as payment for merchandise or services.
repugnance
1. A very strong feeling of dislike or disgust about something or someone: "They felt nothing but repugnance for the terror group's violent history."
2. An extreme dislike or aversion to something or someone.
3. Strong distaste, aversion, or objection; antipathy.
4. Contradictoriness or inconsistency.
5. In logic: the relationship of contradictory terms; inconsistency.
