amphigamy
Normal cross fertilization; the fusion of male and female gametes.
amphigastrium
A small, rudimentary leaflike growth on the underside of the stem of certain liverworts.
amphigastrula
A gastrula composed of cells of unequal size in its upper and lower hemispheres.
amphigean
1. A reference to a plant that has underground as well as aerial flowers.
2. Extending all over the earth from the equator to both poles.
amphigene
A leucite that is a mineral having a glassy fracture, occurring in translucent trapezohedral crystals.

It is a silicate of alumina and potash. It is found in the volcanic rocks of Italy, especially at Vesuvius.

amphigenesis, amphigenetic
1. In psychiatry, a form of sexual inversion in which a person, predominantly homosexual, is able also to have sexual relations with members of the opposite sex.
2. Sexual development; the fusion of two dissimilar gametes.
amphigenous
1. A reference to certain parasitic fungi growing on both sides of leaves.
2. Increasing in size by growth on all sides; such as, lichens.

Lichens are thallophytic plants formed by a mutualistic combination of an alga and a fungus, the algal component being a green or blue-green alga, and the fungal usually an ascomycete.

amphigonadism
Possession of both ovarian and testicular tissue; true hermaphroditism.
amphigonic
A reference to aphigony.
amphigonous
Pertaining to both parents.
amphigony
Sexual reproduction involving cross fertilization.
amphigory, amphigouri
1. A meaningless or nonsensical piece of writing; especially, one intended as a parody.
2. A nonsensical piece of writing, usually in verse form, typically composed as a parody.
amphigynous
In fungi, having an antheridium through which the oogonial initial grows.
amphikaryon
A diploid nucleus containing two haploid sets of chromosomes.
amphimicrobe
A microorganism that is either aerobic or anaerobic, depending on the environment.
